So you've been considering AI for your next children's book? Read on...
Hello peeps!
Below is a hit list of why you should choose AI illustration for you next book project.
1. You have a tiny budget
You have hardly any money to invest and you don’t believe that there is any value in employing a real illustrator at great expense to do original artwork. You do not really understand the true benefit and input that a real illustrator would bring to your book.
2. Fitting into the market
You really like generic illustration that you see everywhere on social media, therefore you are more happy to fit in and be a sheep than to risk taking a calculated risk to do something original.
3.It doesn't make any difference
You cannot actually tell the difference between AI art and the real deal, so it really doesn’t matter.
4. You think you are saving money
You care about making money from your book, first and foremost. It’s not so much about the message or the story. If you can get your book out there it doesn’t really matter whether kids find it inspiring or not, just as long as they buy it.
It's true it's cheap. There is temptation...but...
5. AI saves you money upfront...
You may well save money using AI artwork ( unless you are ripped off- see other blog about being scammed) but you will end up paying in other ways.
Creating a book for children without using an experienced professional to make sure it’s going to inspire them to read it means that your book will not be very good. And for that reason probably not sell much. Perhaps the first few sales will be good and then the bad reviews will start.
Working with an illustrator will improve your story and the illustrations will compliment your words, enhance them, rather than just being bland decorations.
I believe that we need to respect children enough to give them something that inspires them to read. Give them a childhood. Make them laugh. Give them a story they want to remember, and a book they want to share.
6. What's your decision?
If you are still reading , then hello and thank you. If you agreed with points 1- 4 then AI is for you. Good luck! If, however, this highlighted something that you hadn’t thought of before then I am happy about it.
Personally I think if you are not adding value to the book market then you are just adding NOISE. And we are drowning in noise.
If you would like to discuss this with me, I’m happy about chatting to you, just get in touch.
Books are a serious business...
Bookwork is involved. You need someone who knows what they are doing and who understands how to make your words dance with the images, to make a truly engaging experience for your target audience. It’s teamwork, a double act and the best books are born with that process.
Not just that but someone who can take your story and craft it into a print ready PDF that you can publish!
AI is generic, and quite frankly, boring!
Hey, just for fun I also have a series about AI and how it can impact the world of illustration, that maybe you’d be interested to read.
This snail below is a generated image which I have some fun with on my other blog haha
Thanks for reading, I hope it helped!
Good luck out there Peeps! x
Use a real illustrator and make a great book for the children who are reading it!
