CALCULATOR
So you’ve written a book, hurrah, and now you need to illustrate it… But how much is that going to cost, you ask? There are many factors that vary the costs but I want to help you to get the best out of your project by giving you a rough guide. This calculator won’t answer ALL of your questions, it’s HTML, not magic, LOL, but it will give you some idea of the costs involved in producing an illustrated book ready to take to the printer! 🙂
This has been based on a fairly standard-sized childrens picture book ( 25cm by 25cm) and of course if your book is pocket-sized or gigantic then the costs vary. Anyway, I hope this is helpful. Â
Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions regarding pricing or what it all means. I am used to working with people with and without previous experience so I am happy to lead you through this process and I’m open to explaining the various stages.

REMEMBER a typical 32 page children's picture book consists of 12 double page spreads.. not 32!
IMPORTANT: I RETAIN ALL COPYRIGHTS TO MY IMAGES BUT PRICES INCLUDE A WORLDWIDE LICENCE FOR YOUR EXCLUSIVE USE.Â
THESE PRICES REFLECT NO REDUCTION FOR ADVANCES ON ROYALTIES AND THAT IS NEGOTIATED ON A PER-CLIENT BASIS. NOT EVERYONE WANTS TO DEAL WITHÂ ROYALTIES BUT SOME REALISE IT’S A GREAT WAY TO REDUCE INITIAL COSTS AND KEEP ME INTERESTED IN PROMOTION! HOWEVER, YOU WILL NEED AN ACCOUNTANT TO CONSIDER THIS POSSIBILITY.
I USE A CONTRACT FROM THE ASSOCIATION OF ILLUSTRATORS WHERE ALL TERMS FOR THE USE OF THE ILLUSTRATIONS ARE CLEARLY WRITTEN.
